Andrew Haworth - The Red Baron
Andrew Haworth, also known as the Red Player, Red Baron, or the Red Viper (Take your pick, as long as it's red) is an avid board game enthusiast and organizer for the Board Lords. With over a decade of experience in modern board games, Andrew’s gaming roots trace back to playing pitch and other traditional card games with his family. He’s a fan of strategy-driven games like El Grande, Root, Lords of Vegas, Troyes, and Dominion. Known for his balanced playstyle, Andrew thrives in games where strategy and tactics are key, but adaptability is essential as the game evolves. Andrew enjoys playing a wide variety of games with his family and friends, always striving to find the best game to meet the group's needs. Andrew’s gaming achievements include the 2023 Lord of the Board (Winter) and the 2024 Lord of the Board (Winter).
Brian “Judas” John - The John
If there is data to track, you can bet Brian has already built a spreadsheet for it. Since the very beginning of the Board Lords, Brian has been meticulously recording game results while also diving into the endless variety of games brought to the table. You’ll often catch him buried in the rulebook—either ensuring every detail is played by the book or hunting for an exploit to give him an edge. Brian always plays with a smile on his face, enjoying the camaraderie and competition of game night. But don’t let that smile fool you—Brian has a knack for mischief. Hidden traitor games? He’s the traitor more often than not. Games without a traitor? Somehow, chaos still seems to follow him. His fellow Board Lords swear they can feel a hint of betrayal in the air whenever Brian is in the room. As the proud recipient of the first “Benedict Arnold” award, Brian has earned his reputation as the table’s resident schemer. Everyone loves playing with Brian—just make sure you’re keeping an eye on him!
Dan Carroll - Sir DANgerous
Dan Carroll, cinematographer for the Board Lords, has yet to meet a game he didn’t like with this group. Favoring games for their thematic and tactile elements, some of his favorites include Scythe and Kemet. He also enjoys games that allow for more creativity or collaboration between players, such as Balderdash or Unfathomable. Dan found a love of games after learning chess with his grandfather, and grew to appreciate their complexities and strategy while discovering Risk with his father at the fire station. Dan prefers to go with the flow, but is known for his spontaneous, often disastrous moves…thus the name. A coffee-enthusiast, he appreciates almost nothing more than a hot cup at any time of day. Lord of the Board for Summer Slam 2024, Dan sees himself in five years celebrating the fifth anniversary of that victory. Until then, he’ll be in a constant state of anticipation for the next game night.
Matt Leroy - Doc Proc
Matthew “Doc Proc” Leroy has been a fan of board games since childhood. It wasn’t until recently though that he really got into more complex games. He really enjoys games such as Lords of Vegas, Dominant Species, and Viticulture; games that combine player interactions with varying strategies. He is always looking for ways to sneak in the back door, so to speak, and quietly steal a win. While he hasn’t had the big game success, he usually finishes on the podium. His favorite part of game night is the bantering back and forth as well as seeing different strategies from other players.
Tyler Newland - B.G.T.
With the biggest case of undiagnosed FOMO, Joseph “Big Game Tyler” Newland might’ve been the last Board Lord to join but hasn’t missed a night since. With a pocket full of quips, Tyler prefers to be the jokester in the group and wants to be dedicated but not too serious. He enjoys games with factions like Root, deck building like Clank! and auction games like Cylades. You must keep an eye out for him because he’s always looking for those “Big Game” moments to try and take the lead. This won him the first ever “Monte Cristo Award”. Tyler has enjoyed being some type of gamer all his life but only into heavier board games for the last 2 years. His favorite part of game night is the fellowship with friends and the constant challenge and comradery. Tyler gets great practice at home playing with his wife and kids but like game night gets a lot of practice not winning. When playing with Tyler you mustn't ever count him out cause like the shirt says “Don’t Worry, I Have a Plan”.
